Hello. I am currently 17 yrs old. On Dec 4th, my parents told me they would be seperating because my dad had met another woman and had been having an affair. I was in shock! They have been married for 22 yrs. In my eyes, they had a perfect marriage. I’ve never seen 2 people as close as my parents. My mom tells me everything she is feeling but I can’t imagine without actually being in her shoes. She is completely devastated. My dad still says he loves her but he doesn’t want to try to reconcile. My mom is so confused and uncertain about our future financially. I am starting college in 5 days. She charged my first semester tuition and books to her credit card but doesn’t know if we can keep doing that for every semester. I want to get a job to help out but nowhere in my hometown hires under 18. She doesn’t even know if we’ll still be living in our house in a few months. She has also turned to friends, family, counseling, and God. Please keep us in your prayers as we will keep you in ours.

So sorry to hear that. Yes, often life isn’t what it seems. Keep you eye on the goal of heaven and your feet firmly planted in your faith. Go to your school counselor for help with the money plans but do not give up your schooling plans. They might need to be changed along the way a bit but you need to live your dreams, your parents need to deal with their own problems.
It will be tough for your mom to get a handle on things but don’t be doing it for her. You need all your energy for your life and future, she will learn as she goes.
This too shall pass!!
Kaitie, I was 18 when my parents divorced. I was a freshman in college. It was a horrendous blow for me as my parents had been married for 21 years. The silver lining, however, was that once my parents divorced I qualified for a great deal of financial aid based on my mother’s income instead of my father’s income. I went to college for 3 of my 4 years for free. Pell Grants paid for just about everything and other grants covered the rest. Look into everything. Research scholarships. There is a TON of money for college that goes unclaimed every year!!!
