My husband and I are seperated. Divorce is inevitable. How do I help my children cope? They are ages 5 and 10.

My daughter was 2 when her mom and I got divorced. Now she is 5 and I still don’t think she understands what is going on. It is hard to explain to a child why mom and dad are no longer going to be together while putting a positive spin on it. The critical parts are:

1) The children continue to be loved by BOTH parents and both parents actively participate in their lives.

2) They need stability.

3) They need to understand that it is not their fault.

4) Here is a great resource on co-parenting – pdf opens in new window.
