The best advice I can give is to tell you to talk to a professional. There are a few resources on this website that may help but ultimately it is up to the person suffering from depression to get the help they need, whether that is changing their diet, positive thinking, or medications.

June,
Depending on the severity of the depression, one thing that bothered me going through my divorce was to be nice, people would say, “sorry to hear about your divorce, if you need anything give me call”. When you think about the divorce literally morning, noon and night, you just don’t pick up the phone and whine to someone. You and maybe another person can take turns and call or visit this individual daily, whatever. During my divorce, I had 1 person in this world that would call me and just listen to me whatever mood I was in. That meant so much…he didn’t have to say anything, just calling meant everything to me. Family, friends, church, they all abandoned me. I had no one but this 1 friend. Hope this helps!
June,
1 more comment that may be worthwhile to this situation is to reference the book “My Utmost for His Highest” by Oswald Chambers. You can go to the site (utmost.org) and access the daily devotionals under the section labelled “Calendar”. The one specific for this case is on Feb 17 entitled “Taking the Initiative Against Depression”. It is worth reviewing.
