Where Does Inspiration Come From

When was the last time you were inspired? Ever notice when you are inspired nothing can stop you? Find your passion and the secret to a productive life.

Christians that believe followers of Christ shouldn’t have the “luxuries” the world has to offer couldn’t be further from the truth, God wants us to have nice things, to be successful and have a productive life but He wants to be the center of it. When the love of money, ambitions and self are put before God it then becomes a problem. As we place God first things tend to fall into place. When our priorities are skewed we are never satisfied, always hunger for more and no matter how much we acquire we are never full – something is always lacking.

God-loving people throughout the generations have been able to live a life for God and enjoy the things they have always wanted. Many started with nothing and had to build their way up, others had to lose everything in order to learn the lesson about priorities, self-discipline and dedication. These people were able to find the secret to a productive life because they tuned into a higher power, God, and listened to what He had to say, moment by moment. They followed their God given passions and utilized their gifts to achieve the life they always dreamt. The problem with many Christians today is they have fallen victim to others, financial troubles, or health issues and they have lost faith that God really does have a purpose for them. Instead of shedding the victim mentality they feed it which only rationalizes their view of themselves and the world as a place without opportunity (at least for them).

No man is born into the world whose work is not born with him. There is always work, and tools to work with, for those who will, and blessed are the rough hands of toil. The busy world shoves angrily aside the man who stands with arms akimbo (Akimbo is a human body position in which the hands are on the hips and the elbows are bowed outward) until occasion tells him what to do; and he who waits to have his task marked out shall die and leave his errand unfulfilled.

Unlocking the Secret to a Productive Life

God Given Talents – God has given everyone talents to use for His glory. Are you using them? If you’re like me you probably don’t quite know what they are but I bet there are people in your life that can name a few. I know how it is to down-play or ignore what God has given. It becomes an excuse to never step outside our comfort zone but I have come to learn, comfort zones are over rated.

You cannot look into a cradle and read the secret message traced by a divine hand any more than you can see the North Star in the magnetic needle. God has loaded the needle of that young life so it will point to the star of its own destiny; and though you may pull it around by artificial advice and unnatural education, and compel it to point to the star which presides over poetry, art, law, medicine, or whatever your own pet calling is until you have wasted years of a precious life, yet, when once free, the needle flies back to its own star.

God has given us talents to fulfill our calling and no persons’ is more important than another. If we fail to move towards our passion then the successful life we desire will always be outside our reach. Society will hit its mark when every person follows their passion and has chosen the correct work. No one can be truly successful until they have found their place. Like a locomotive, they are strong on the track, but weak anywhere else. “Like a boat on a river,” says Emerson, “every boy runs against obstructions on every side but one. On that side all obstruction is taken away, and he sweeps serenely over a deepening channel into an infinite sea.” Don’t ignore your God given talents, use and grow them.

Values – It is hard to get anywhere in life without strong values and self-discipline. Honesty, respect and integrity are key to unlocking the secret of a successful life. They will help you lead others and build solid relationships with co-workers, friends and family. If the only thing you ever did right in life was to pass along these values to your children then you can certainly count your life a success.

Kingdom Focused Goal Setting

Matthew 6:33 – But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Without setting goals you are never going to know where you are going. Very successful people in the world understand the importance of goal setting. When your goals are in line with the God given talents, values and God’s will you can’t go wrong. It’s not always easy but nothing worth achieving has ever been. Stop drifting through life, watching it pass you by – set goals and live with purpose and direction.

Hearing God’s Voice – The greater you depend on God’s guidance the more successful you will be. When you are right in the center of God’s will you continually make progress and fulfill your calling. Read How God Talks to Us for additional reading on hearing God’s voice.

The parents of Michael Angelo had declared that no son of theirs should ever follow the discreditable profession of an artist, they even punished him for covering the walls and furniture with sketches; but the fire burning in his heart was ignited by the Divine Artist, and would not let him rest until he had immortalized himself in the architecture of St. Peter’s, in the marble of his Moses, and on the walls of the Sistine Chapel.

Gratitude and Giving – Successful people that are truly happy and joy-filled will tell you that a couple key ingredients are gratitude and giving. Many people focus on what they don’t have they miss out on what they do have. Giving back, whether it is your time, money, hard work, lending an ear, prayer, encouragement, etc is simply being good stewards of what God has given. If you live life with closed fists, trying to keep everything from slipping through your fingers it will not only rob you of joy but the amount of success obtained.

Conclusion

You have a purpose, we all do, and God wants you to have the desires of your heart. Align yourself with His will and things will turn around for you. Discover your talents, values and calling on your life. Rid yourself of doubt and stumbling blocks that are holding you back from true success. Take advantage of where you are now and make things better, you don’t have to wait for the opportunity to fall into your lap, create the opportunity yourself.
